Naima was working as a waitress at a coffee shop before she decided to audition for ‘America’s Next Top Model’, that also when some one pumped her to do so. But, once she was into it she knew that she had to win this, not only for herself, but for all those whom she was a representation of. She says that she was a representation of black, of Mexican and of Irish and that she had to win the contest for all of them. Naima was a surprise winner of the show as she surprised the judges in the final round of the show. Her prize money included a contract with Ford Models, a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics and a fashion spread in Elle. Besides this Naima has modeled for magazines like CoverGirl, ELLE, Fuego, US Weekly, Radaar, IN Touch, Star and Teen People. She is also a fashion model and has walked for designers in shows like Christopher Deane Spring 2006 Collection, Gharani Strok Fall 2005 and Carlos Miele Fashion Show. Most recently, in 2008, she was seen on the cover of Vicious Magazine.
Besides, being a model, Naima has a passion for Ballet. She even attended Detroit’s Ballet Renaissance and was enrolled in American Ballet Theatre’s Detroit summer programme. Naima is also a vocalist for the band ‘Chewing Pics’. Their EP, ‘Tarantula’ was released on March 10, 2008
