The first season of the series was aired on 20 May, 2003. This was the only season that had ten contestants in it. The first half of the season took place in New York City, where the contestants were made to stay in a loft apartment in the Flatotel. After some basic preparations that every contestant had to go through, they were soon made to enter the first competition of the series. Their first challenge was a photo shoot, which took place at the top of a Manhattan Skyscraper, where the models had to shoot wearing bikinis designed by Jennifer Lopez. After their first challenge the judges decided to eliminate Tessa. Next, they had to undergo another bikini shoot but this time it was for Stuff magazine. This time it was Katie who had to say goodbye to her dream of becoming America’s Next Top Model. The judges were of the view that she was overly sexual in her photographs.
Well, it was not just challenges that they had to face, the contestants were also pampered. They were all granted spa treatments. This time, again their challenge was a photo shoot, for a commercial. It was Ebony who had to leave the show. Besides challenges, the girls had to face a lot of other things as they were all living under one roof and had to face bitter criticism from each other. For the next elimination round the girls were taught how to answer questions and their challenge was to impress a tough interviewer. It was Elyse who was able to impress judges the most and Giselle was sent home for not being confident. Now that only five girls were left on the show, they were taken to Paris, for the rest of the series. Here, they had to shoot for lingerie, with a male model. It was Kesse who was eliminated after this round. With only four girls left on the show the competition got really tough. This time the girls had to face Tyra as a photographer in a Black and White photo shoot. Their challenge this time was to impress four gentlemen with their ability to carry themselves. It was Adrianne who was announced as the winner of the episode and Robin had to leave the show. Now it is time for season finale with three contestants left. Elyse, Adrianne and Shannon had to fight each other in the race of becoming America’s Next Top Model. Elyse was eliminated leaving Adrianne and Shannon to compete with each other. Finally, it was Adrianne who was announced as the first winner of the America’s Next Top Model. Being the winner she won the prize of a contract with Revlon cosmetics, a contract for representation with Wilhelmina Models and a spread within Marie Claire magazine.
