The second season of the ‘America’s Next top Model’ was aired on January 13, 2004. This season was again hosted by Tyra Banks who is also the creator of the series. The season had twelve contestants, two more than the previous one. For this season too, the girls from all over America were picked up. After the primary selection round, the girls met each other, thereby, taking the first step towards competition. Their first challenge took place on a US navy ship, which was a nude photo shoot for Fresh Look Contact Lenses. Anna, one of the contestants on the show refused to be a part of the shoot and was thus eliminated for the same reason. Following almost the same pattern as that of the first season their second challenge was also a photo shoot, and it was Bethany who was eliminated. This time the judges decided to check the contestants by testing their make up skills. The contestants were given fifteen minutes to wear make up and all of them had to share one mirror. After the photo shoot, the judges decided to eliminate Heather. Their next challenge was to dress in their personal style but out of others clothes and not, their own. Shandi was the winner of this round and for the photo shoot the girls had to portray some celebrities. The judges decided not to give Jenascia another chance. Besides the personality training, the girls had to pose under water. After the photo shoot the judges decided to eliminate Xiomara. The next in the row of going home was Catie as she was not able to perform well in the commercial photo shoot. For their next task the girls had to perform in Tyra’s music video besides the photo shoot.
Sara was eliminated for the fact that she is too sexy for the fashion world. Next the girls had to pose for sunglasses it was Camille who was eliminated. This time the girls were given costumes that suited them the best. For their photo shoot they had to do a sensual, romantic nude shoot. Mercedes was the one who won the praise of the judges and it was April who had to leave her dream of being America’s Next Top Model here only. Now with three contestants left, the three of them were given dresses that were completely not their style. It was Shandi who was eliminated, leaving Mercedes and Yoanna for the final two. After the last photo shoot and the walk, the judges finally came up with the decision that it is Yoanna who best suits to be the winner of cycle two of America’s Next Top Model. Her prize included a contract with IMG Models, a fashion spread within Jane magazine, and a cosmetics campaign with Sephora.
